The 2006 lambing season brought many new members to our flock! We had a total of 29 lambs from 17 ewes. Our “girls” produced 12 sets of twins and 5 singles. While we will be keeping most of the ewes, we have a few for sale as well as several nice rams. We will be introducing a new ram to the group this fall to incorporate new blood lines.
We had a 2# ewe lamb, who was abandoned by its mother. She was left in the hot sun and my Dad found her just in time. We raised her on a bottle and our two German Shepard dogs claimed her immediately! This little girl, “Sweet Pea”, brought much laughter to all of us this spring. She is out with the “big” sheep now, but she will always have a special place in our hearts. She still thinks she is a dog or a person and is the outcast of the flock. We will be adding photos of her and her “Mom” to the website soon.
Our new sheep
working area is almost complete and cuts down on labor significantly. The sheep and the shepherds are glad to have
this in place, as the stress level is much lower for all concerned!!
We will be fencing an additional 15 acres this fall in preparation for the
growth of our flock. Pasture
revitalization is also planned for this area and we hope to have it in use by
Spring of 2007.
Our Perennial plant business has more than doubled each year with internet sales! We hope to continue the growth of our internet business (www.bloominacresfarm.com) and have been fortunate to find a wonderful group of customers on the world wide web. We specialize in perennials that are hardy, care-free and heat/drought tolerant. Let’s face it, we all love to garden, but we need low maintenance alternatives in this busy world of ours! A list of current plants is attached. We’re happy to help with selections for your perennial beds, cutting garden, rock garden, butterfly garden or design of any sort.
With
our internet business well underway, it’s time to begin building our local
customer base. We began our 1st
season at the FAYETTEVILLE FARMERS MARKET in the spring. Our plants were well received at the
market. There was also lots of interest
in Icelandic wool products. We hope to
be able to offer yarn and raw fleeces for the 2007 Market season.
We
added 21 laying hens to the farm this spring and hope to begin seeing eggs from
these girls soon.
